Bike Maintenance for Teens

Mar 6 & 13
Bike Maintenance poster

In this two-part series, teens will learn how to repair a flat tire, clean/adjust the gears and service brakes. This class is for 11-18 year olds to gain competence and confidence to work on bikes. Class will be taught by Scott Shishim (SK Bikes) and Ryan Strand (SK/ Paonia Bike Co-Op.) We will all use Nature Connection bikes and tools to simplify instruction. Please do not bring a personal bike. If students would like to learn to work on their own bikes they are encouraged to first take the class and then join Ryan during open-shop time at the TLC bike co-op.

The first session will focus on flats, cleaning and safety checks. The second session will focus on gears and brakes. To best accommodate our community, we will have the first session at the Nature Connection in Hotchkiss, with the second session in Paonia (location TBD based on enrollment.)

Adults are encouraged to attend with your child- however an adult is NOT required. We are asking for a $10 registration fee to reserve your spot, and to prevent last minute cancelations. If you attend both classes you’ll get your own Bike Repair Kit worth $30! Repair kit includes a tube for your bike, a tire lever, multitool and SK Bikes water bottle.
